PCS NIGHT '2000: We invite you to be part of the history of the greatest Punjabi show of the new millennium by joining Punjabi Cultural Society Annual Dinner Banquet "PCS Night" on Saturday, November 4, 2000, 7pm. World's famous Punjabi pop & folk singer "JAZZY BAINS & Group" from England will be performing with its orchestra at the expanded & stylish INDIA HOUSE Banquet Hall in Schaumburg IL.
Jazzy B known as Crown Prince of Bhangra - born in Punjab India, raised in Canada & now settled in England - a transatlantic superstar has introduced a fresh new image to the world of traditional Bhangra music & popularized it also among non-Indians. Since "Ghugian da Jorha" his debut album in 1994, Jazzy B has become one of the most popular Punjabi pop and folk singer of modern times. Other popular albums include "Piar da Macadma", "Staying Real", "Londono Patola", "All eyes on Me" and "Singha di Kaum Bahadur hai". He was also the playback singer for and appeared in the Punjabi movie "Shaheed Udham Singh" starring Raj Babbar with music director Sukhshinder Shinda. He also sang in Hindi movie "Bulandi" starring Anil Kapoor.

PCS seeks SPONSORS/DONORS for its not for profit events and they will be appropriately recognized at the event. Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago is a registered non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization with Internal Revenue Services ID # 37-1321120 and your donations made to PCS is tax deductible to the extent permitted by IRS. The funds raised from this show will be used to develop well-needed Punjabi Community Center.
Vaisakhi Cultural celebration "RANGLA PUNJAB '2001": Program planning meetings will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2000 and January 7, 2001 from 12:00 noon-1:30pm at Y.M.C.A. Palatine, IL. Please join hands with Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (PCS) in organizing "Rangla Punjab '2001" on Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Gateway Theatre in Chicago. Interested participants must register by December 31, 2000.
"Rangla Punjab" has been a major annual sensational, traditional, state of the art Punjabi Cultural variety event in the Chicagoland area since last two decade, to preserve and promote Punjabi language, cultural heritage and to encourage and harness local Punjabi artists including youth and children.
PUNJABI SPORTS FESTIVAL '2000: was organized by PCS at Palatine community park. PCS is thankful to all the participants, organizers and sponsors of Punjabi sports Festival '2000. Also see attached Press Release for Punjabi Sports Festival '2000, which was well covered by American mainstream media including "Chicago Tribune" and "Daily Herald" and also Indo-American media.
PCS SCHOLARSHIPS: P. C. S. will be awarding its annual $500 Scholarships to college going Punjabi Students at Vaisakhi celebrations "Rangla Punjab '2001". Completed applications must be received by PCS by March 5, 2001. Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago is thankful to S. Menjinder Singh Bhambra for serving as PCS Honorary Chairman for the year 1999-2000. S. Sukhdev Singh Multani will be PCS Honorary Chairman for the year 2000-01. New PCS Office bearers will be introduced at "PCS Night '2000" on November 4, 2000.
PUNJABI PAGES: PCS has extended the date to release the second edition of its community directory "Punjabi Pages" at "Rangla Punjab 2001" on April 14, 2001. The directory will be distributed free of charge to the community members. "Punjabi Pages", will include the addresses and phone numbers of the community members of Midwest U.S.A., community businesses, government resources, a list of community services providers, and other useful general information.
Community members to be included in this directory are required to fill out a short authorization form, at no charge. The form is available from PCS via mail, e-mail, and fax. On line registration can be made at PCS web-site. Last date to register is February 28, 2001. Previously authorized names from Punjabi Pages 1999 will reappear in Punjabi Pages 2001 as it is, unless requested/revised otherwise. Businesses and service providers can advertise in "Punjabi Pages".
SWIMMING/BASKETBALL teams are being formed for practices to start in October 2000 at Palatine YMCA. Registration fee for Fall Basketball League is $50 and practices to start 10/08/00-12/17/00. Swimming classes fee is $90 and will start 10/29/00-12/17/00. Interested participants should give their names to Mrs. Amarjit K. Atwal (847) 564-4735 or Paul Lail at (847) 478-2321.
BOY SCOUTS: PCS has formed Boy Scout troop. They had their first pack meeting at Palatine Gurdwara Sahib on September 28, 2000. Our Cub Master is Sukhmel Singh Atwal. Committee chairman is Amarjit K. Atwal, the Den Leader for 2nd grade is Neeru Kaur. For third grade we need Den Leader. Forth grade Den Leader is Mohinder Singh Kahlon. Fifth Grade Den Leader is Jarnail Singh Lail. The Den leaders for 6, 7 & 8th grade is Sukhkmel & Amarjit Atwal. We encourage all Community members to enroll their Boys in this activity. The boys will have lot of organized activities the parents & boys will appreciate. It teaches the children discipline & also have fun at the same time. There will be weekly meeting at Palatine Gurdwara Sahib every Thursday at 7:00p.m. Parents interested in enrolling their sons for grades 1-5, 6-8, 9-12 please contact Amarjit K. Atwal. We can make our future generation to have leadership skills, good citizens, good character, good neigh borer etc. The boys will have camp outs, field trips to go to the games.
GIRL SCOUTS: The girl scouts group formation is also in progress. Interested parents or Girls can contact Mrs. Amarjit K. Atwal at (847) 564-4735. Parents shall prepare to spend time with their daughters too. Parents are requested to be brave & sign up for Scout Leaders to show their leadership skills. Kids shall follow their role models. Parents are the best role models for their kids and PCS is proud to work on this community initiative.
SENIORS TEA PARTY: PCS has taken the initiative to organize "Senior's Tea Party," These meetings are for senior's social get-together to talk, exchange ideas, share stories or simply play cards for entertainment over a cup of tea and snacks. PCS organized a seniors outing to Chicago Historical Society in July.
The future "SENIORS TEA PARTIES" are scheduled to be held every Wednesday, 4-6pm at Palatine Gurdwara Sahib, 1280 Winnetka St. Palatine, (847) 358-1117. S. SEMINAR: in observance of the breast cancer awareness month in October, PCS is planning to hold a seminar in Palatine to raise awareness about breast cancer in the community. ASIAN American Coalition of Chicago will be hosting 18th Annual Dinner Banquet in February, 2001, Korean American is the host community for next year's event. PCS will reserve prime tables. - "International Day festival" at Carol Stream Post office.
PCS artists will be performing at Palatine Seniors Center on Sunday, Dec. 10th 2-4pm and also at Evanston New Year Eve celebrations in Evanston December 31, 2000. PCS is proud to be part of mainstream activities.
